Ron’s generous invitations were frequent; extended to friends and strangers, singles and families, his offer could be for coffee and dessert or for a several weeks’ stay with three meals a day and laundry privileges. Sometimes these ideas were discussed with me in advance and sometimes not. It was obvious; my husband had a heart for people and a deep desire to meet their needs.
Although I was religious and a Bible reader, I had either not noticed or not comprehended the command to “offer hospitality to one another without grumbling” (1 Peter 4:9). I did not offer—my husband did. What I did was grumble!
