Amazing Awaits

Since the beginning God has planned something “amazing” for us….

Genesis 1:27-2:1

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

Wouldn’t it be great if the latest fashions were modest and television promoted honorable themes and movie stars were good role models? It is hard to imagine, isn’t it? Our culture is far from a wholesome place for our teen daughters. One of the most serious challenges teens face is a myth that permeates our culture. It claims that a worldly woman is strong and secure while a pure woman is naïve and vulnerable.

Enhancing Your Bible Study

Every day we are faced with continual choices of how to act and react. How do we distinguish good from evil? How do we train our minds, rather than be led by our feelings?

Hebrews 5:14

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

A major way we do this is through constant use of the scriptures. We learn the Word of God as we read and study and hear it taught and preached; we meditate on the Word of God in the quiet of our minds and hearts; we write it on our hearts through memory and spaced repetition.

Connecting the Word of God to our Lives

Why is it important to love and value the Word and to understand its connection and relevance to our life? Are the stories too familiar, or dry and stale? Does God's Word seem far removed from our modern lives? Stories in the Word that we may associate with children or think of as simple Bible stories really deeply reveal God to us. This Bible study helps us understand the value of the Word, and inspires us to make connections in our daily lives.

Legacies of Faith 6: Using Your Strengths

My name is Debbie Drake. My husband and I became disciples in 1989 and 1990 after moving to Boston with our youngest two teen-aged children. Although we were very religious all our lives, there were many heart issues we needed to deal with as our eyes were opened in a new way to what the Scriptures taught. Thanks to the patience and vision of many disciples who showed us what it meant to truly follow Jesus, we have been learning since that time to always start with the heart and go back to the basics of faith, love, and obedience. The particular area that I have had to grow in over the past 20 years has been seeing the talents that God has given me and using them vigorously to honor Him and help others.

Legacies of Faith 5: Taking Initiative

Lisa Schnell is the wife of Mark Schnell, an elder in the Boston Church of the International Churches of Christ, and leads a family group along with her husband Mark. Lisa was reached out to on-the-job and baptized by a man in the traditional Church of Christ who eventually would become her father-in-law.

After seven years of marriage, Lisa and her husband and their two small children moved to Providence, Rhode Island, to be a part of the church there. Due to a job change for Mark and the moving of the Spirit, Lisa and her family relocated to Methuen, Massachusetts, in 1993 where they currently serve the Northwest Region of the Boston Church of Christ.

In many parts of the world we just celebrated Mother’s Day. No matter where you live we want to take a moment to say thank you for all the ways you give and serve as a mother.

For the moms out there I wanted to post a class from Lin Beaty on “Ten Gifts We Can Give Our Children That Can Never Be Taken Away”. It takes courage to believe and hold to the fact that God is with us no matter what life circumstance we find ourselves in.
