Beaches, fast cars, and now -- Jesus Christ! The South Florida Church of Christ is very excited to announce plans to plant a church in Daytona Beach, Florida. The mission team will be sent out to rescue lost souls in the fall of 2009.
A city that really is “world famous” for both the roar of NASCAR and the ocean waves on its wide beaches also has its place in our own brotherhood’s history. It was here, over 35 years ago during a spring break evangelistic campaign, a hotel worker titled that evening’s bible study as a “Soul Talk”. That name was quickly applied to the small group bible studies which later became known as “Bible Talks” (and by a few other names today). These "Bible Talks" are still the foundation of our churches for family, discipleship, fellowship and outreach.
The South Florida Church of Christ is filled with joy to give back to Daytona Beach! In the fall of 2009, we will send a group of disciples eagerly committed to build a church to reach out to lost souls in the Greater Daytona Beach area.
As it says: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:15): Messengers are needed. We are also thankful to God for messengers such as Heath and Julie Barrow (pictured left) who have hearts for God and His people. The Barrow's are thrilled with the prospect of leading the planting team to Daytona Beach. Both Heath and Julie have served in the ministry before and currently working secular jobs as they oversee several Fellowship Groups.
Please add Daytona Beach to your prayer list for 2009 as we plan, select the team, finance and pray for God’s wisdom in all of these things. In turbulent times such as these, God loves to do amazing things in humble places through humble people.
