Caribbean School of Ministry Holds Second Training Course

The course, which included three days of lectures and presentations and an extensive reading component, built on the programme’s initial module which provided an introduction to biblical interpretation.  Module II gave students in-depth and ‘hands-on’ exposure to the interpretation of scripture by requiring participants to undertake an exegetical study of the book of Titus. 

Over a weekend of classes, students were guided through a process that enabled them to see the original message Paul, the epistle’s writer, was seeking to convey; and then empowered them to determine, through the use of principles of Biblical interpretation, the book’s message to modern Christians.                                                                           

In Kingston, almost 100 students, and in Port of Spain, over 70 students participated in the course, which was open to anyone wishing to increase their biblical knowledge.  

In the Kingston session, in an exciting twist of fate, the curriculum was delivered entirely by Caribbean teachers, attorneys-at-law, Tyrone Marcus and Courtney Bailey. The local teachers had previously planned to share the lectern with veteran biblical teacher, Steve Kinnard. However, when illness took the venerable scholar out of play, Tyrone and Courtney stepped up to the plate and taught the entire course between them, sending an inspiring message to the fledgling biblical scholars in attendance. 

In Port of Spain, along with Courtney and Tyrone, students were treated to classes taught by Douglas and Vicki Jacoby. On the first evening, Doug provided participants with a refresher to Module I and with exegetical tools in hand, the group was guided over the next two days through the book of Titus. It was a special treat to hear from Vicki Jacoby who taught the women from Titus 2 on the role of older and younger women.
