Donations Needed to Relocate Disciples from Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Editor's Note: Hundreds of disciples are in serious danger in their own homes in Abidjan. Hundreds of others are being relocated to escape the violence. See the ICOC Hot News video that was just released and read the following account.

The situation our brothers and sisters are facing in Abidjan is rapidly becoming a humanitarian disaster as the country is on the brink of collapse. There are sporadic skirmishes throughout the city as more and more of the civilian population tries to leave in search of safety. There are new dead bodies on the streets with every sunrise.
HOPE worldwide Opens Disaster Response Fund for Donations for Japan
In a communication to Church Leaders Randy Jordan, CEO of HOPE worldwide and John Causey, Chair of the ICOC's HWW and Benevolence Committee advised churches of the opening of HOPE worldwide's Disaster Response Fund to receive donation for Japan. An excerpt of their letter is provided below:
JAPAN UPDATE: Shortages and the Threat of Radiation
Disaster Update from Randy Jordan, CEO of HOPE worldwide
"The disaster in Japan presents a unique challenge of access for relief workers. At first, the immediate devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami restricted access to the disaster area as the Japanese military and professional search and rescue teams moved in to provide assistance. Soon thereafter as you know from the news reports, the natural disaster worsened by the deterioration of three Fukushima nuclear reactors and access became almost impossible.
At the present time, HOPE worldwide's primary response will be providing counseling and psycho-social support for the victims of the disaster, through our partnership with the Tokyo Church of Christ. This was an important component of our response to the Haiti earthquake, as well.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation. Please join with us in praying for the comfort of the disaster victims and strengthening of our church partners who stand ready to help."

February 9, 2011 - HOPE worldwide was named “Partner of the Year” by the Rotarians for Fighting AIDS at the Annual Community Affairs Forum of the Coca Cola Africa Foundation in Accra, Ghana. Marion Bunch, Chair and CEO of Rotarians for Fighting AIDS, presented the award to Drs. Marc Aguirre, South Africa Country Director and Regional Technical Director and Mark Ottenweller, Global AIDS Coordinator of HOPE worldwide.
Joint Memorandum Renewed with American Red Cross
January 2011 - HOPE worldwide Disaster Services is pleased to announce that a national Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was renewed with the American Red Cross. The MOU continues the ongoing working relationship between the organizations that began in 1997. Its purpose is to continue our collaboration in assisting impacted communities during disaster events in the United States and provide preparedness education outreach.
Pray for the People of the Ivory Coast
February 22, 2011 - Please pray for the church and the HOPE worldwide staff and programs in the Ivory Coast. Dr. Solange Balou, HOPE worldwide Country Director, reported today that all the banks have been closed and more violence has broken out in the streets of Abidjan. She asks for our prayers and sends her love and thanks to everyone.
