Louisiana Flooding Situation Report

Many have asked about the safety of disciples in our churches and how HOPE worldwide is helping the community enduring the flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We are extremely grateful for your prayers and desire to help. We want you to know the disciples are safe, although some have personally experienced flooding in their homes.
September 11th Day of Remembrance
"The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord." -- John 10:17-18
The events of 9/11 like few others have permanently changed the course and tenor of our country. Since that fateful day in 2001, we take time to remember both the breathtaking loss for America and the extraordinary heroism performed by our first responders. These brave fire fighters, police, and medical personnel who so compassionately and expertly knit us back together when events tear us apart should be held in the highest honor. The sacrifice, love, and devotion shown to others are otherworldly qualities most exemplified by Jesus. Each week our fellowship celebrates Christ laying his life down for us just as these brave men and women did for their fellow Americans.
I Wasn't Alone
There are more than 100 North American Chapters of HOPE worldwide. In addition to Saturday Academy, one of our signature programs in many cities across the US, Chapter programs include serving foster children and their families, feeding and caring for the homeless, empowering youth service through Hope Scouts, lending a hand to beautify communities and mobilizing volunteer teams on designated days of service to help meet local needs. Here’s a moving story of a mother and her children from Columbia, South Carolina in her own words.
As a single parent juggling several jobs and my own education to better my family’s financial situation, I often felt like the only person invested in my children’s future. If it wasn’t for the mentoring and educational support of HOPE worldwide’s Saturday Academy, I don’t know where my family would be today. That was about eight years ago. It was then I realized… I wasn’t alone!
HOPE worldwide Boston Chapter Raises Funds for Food Pantry
The clouds were gray and the rain made for a great memory as the Boston HOPE worldwide Chapter volunteers and Boston Church of Christ came together for a worship service and fundraising walk to support the Framingham Food Pantry and a yearly donation to HOPE worldwide. Over $66,000 was collected from the fundraiser. The singles ministry established a faith goal of $20,000 and collected over $25,000 for the Walk. Many creative and sacrificial ideas were implemented to support the cause of easing hunger in our cities.

HOPEww Houston Chapter Volunteers Respond To Flooding
Historic flooding in the Houston area has killed seven people and caused more than 1,200 high-water rescues since it began on Monday. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has since declared a state of emergency in nine counties.
Hoops for Hope 2016 Raises Record Funds
On March 25, 2016 fifty basketball players participated in a 24-hour charity fundraiser to raise funds for the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE (SHCH) as well as additional support for other HOPE worldwide programs. The Boston Hoops for Hope event raised more than $71,000 – making it the most successful one since it began eight years ago!
Southwest Florida Becomes 100th HOPEww Chapter
Almost a year and a half ago, our congregation in Southwest Florida put together a service team. Our mission was to serve those in our local community with the conviction that when we’re serving the poor, we are serving Jesus.
HOPEww Detroit Donates 3,424 Water Bottles to Flint Residents

HOPE worldwide Detroit chapter collected 3,424 bottles of water and 64 gallon jugs to help Flint residents with the water crisis. Due to high levels of lead, the water has been deemed unsuitable for drinking.
Winter Storm Preparedness Tips
Winter Storm Ilias is quickly spreading snow and some ice through the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys today after blanketing parts of the Midwest with snow earlier this week. After this system, Winter Storm Jonas is then expected to develop Thursday and become a significant snowstorm for the East Coast Friday and into the weekend.
