Do Something For Others: Volunteer this MLK Day!
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day projects will be organized in more than 75 cities by 42 HOPE worldwide chapters, Martin Luther King Jr. Day subgrantees and our national partner the American Red Cross. There are fire prevention projects in 67 cities and HOPE worldwide and American Red Cross volunteers are expected to reach more than 230,000 homes. There are opportunities for all ages beginning Saturday, January 7 until Monday, January 16. In the words of Dr. King, “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.”

Thousands of Volunteers Will Help Protect Their Neighbors from Home Fires
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Projects Will Target Vulnerable Residents and Neighborhoods
Wayne, PA, Dec. 9, 2011 – Twenty-two organizations have been awarded grants to lead fire prevention education projects in neighborhoods at risk for home fires. HOPE worldwide, one of six National Service Team Leaders for the 2012 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, is partnering with the Corporation for National and Community Service to engage more than 6,000 volunteers in protecting their neighbors.

August 3, 2011 — As Tropical Storm Emily nears Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is urging residents, especially those living in coastal areas, to closely monitor the storm and follow the advice of their local officials.
HOPE worldwide Preparing to Respond to Tornado Victims in Joplin
May 24, 2011 - HOPE worldwide Kansas City and St. Louis Chapters will be working in Sheltering and Mass care operations in collaboration with the American Red Cross in and around Joplin, Missouri. "Our hearts go out to all who lost everything" said Antonio Boyd, HOPE worldwide Community Service Division Leader, who is currently coordinating response efforts from Kansas City. We need donations to support our volunteers. I am grateful to the volunteers for the quick response. More information to come.
Chapters and Churches Unite To Help in Southeast US
Tornadoes in Alabama left Tuscaloosa devastated. HOPE worldwide Chapters and local ICOC churches acted swiftly in response. It has been amazing to see the Atlanta, North River, and Birmingham Chapters so willing to help these disaster victims.
