Lessons Learned on the Mission Field

How did I get here?

"Excuse me Leslie, can I ask your advice on something? We have a young woman upstairs who is visiting and has collapsed. She believes she is demon-possessed. How should I handle this"?

This question was asked of me my first week at our new church abroad. "Hmmm...demon possession. I've never had anyone ask me that question before, tell me more details..."

Needless to say, the conversation ended with me saying something like, "Let me get back to you".

Contentment vs. Worry

What do contentment and worry have in common? Absolutely nothing! In fact, they cannot co-exist. Women struggle a lot with worry; it seems we come by it naturally. An article on psychotherapy entitled “Are we better yet?” (LA TIMES – 1-18-00) had this to say about worry: “We have created whole new categories of what people should worry about, hundreds of new ways in which we can fail or people can fail us.”
