Merry Christmas from the OYC Guys
This week, the OYC Guys present you a special episode: The Best Christmas Gift. Why does being on a One Year Challenge during Christmas make the holiday special? During Christmas, disciples get to give to people who have not heard of Jesus a chance to hear the Gospel message.
OYC: Ready for Christmas
Being away from home may be especially difficult during the holidays, but disciples on a One Year Challenge are bringing the Christmas spirit to new friends.
At one of the OYC sites this week, disciples began a month-long series of outreach activities for themselves and their friends to prepare for Christmas. The first activity was for making Christmas ornaments and decorations together. Next week, they will teach their friends how to make traditional holiday food and drinks. The final week's activity will teach Christmas songs.
This series of events culminates in a Christmas Eve celebration. With people around the world focused on Jesus' birth at this time of the year, what better opportunity could there be to share with those who have not heard the Gospel?
Newest OYC Site: Perth, Australia
This week we welcome our newest site: Perth, the capital city of Western Australia!
OYC: Your People, My People
This week we celebrate the wedding of a disciple who met her husband on a One Year Challenge! As Ruth said to Naomi in Ruth 1:16, "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God, my God," our sister Terra decided to marry a local brother at her One Year Challenge site. She loves his country's people not only as a disciple, but also as a devoted wife.The wedding ceremony was conducted almost completely in the OYC site's local language, evidence of Terra's love for her new husband and his homeland. We honor this sister, as well as many other disciples who wholeheartedly love all the nations in this way.
OYC: Ministry Training Session
Worried about your effectiveness on the mission field? Don't worry! Get trained!In Philippians 2:25-30, Paul describes his brother Epaphroditus as a fellow worker and soldier of the Gospel. Doing the work of the ministry--being a fellow-soldier or a fellow-worker--requires training.
This week four disciples on a One Year Challenge joined a ministry training session in a neighboring city. The training lasted three days, covering topics such as having a vision for your ministry, how to use the Bible effectively and how to work with other brothers and sisters in unity. It was an inspiring and encouraging time!
Matt and Sharrise Arrive for Their OYC
This week we welcome Sharrise (middle) and Matthew (right) to their One Year Challenge site. More and more brothers and sisters are hearing God's call to go into all nations to proclaim the gospel message. Please be praying for Sharrise and Matthew as they begin their One Year Challenge!
OYC: Completing a Degree on the OYC
Who says you can't graduate while on the mission? This week we celebrate four brothers and sisters who have completed degrees while wholeheartedly serving and reaching the lost at their One Year Challenge site.
OYC: Auburn, AL has 11th Baptism of 2017
This week we are excited to announce that the Auburn OYC site had its eleventh baptism of 2017! The baptism was also the seventh baptism in the past year for the Tuskegee University campus ministry.
OYC: Salt and Light
Howard (in the white t-shirt) was reached out to by a One Year Challenge volunteer earlier this year. After studying the Bible for several months, he decided to follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Just weeks after his baptism last month, he volunteered to spend a Saturday serving at a facility that cares for the elderly. As a university student he learned the gospel; now he's living it! This is the ultimate goal of the OYC: to expand the kingdom of God in this fallen world.
OYC: New Arrivals in Birmingham, UK and Scotland
This week at the OYC, we are excited to see new arrivals Nick Potter in Birmingham, UK and Emily Schaub (below, in the pink shirt) in Scotland. They will serve and be trained for a year at each of these locations.
We praise God for brothers and sisters like Nick and and Emily who step out in faith to take the One Year Challenge!
