Opportunity To Serve Those In Need In Trinidad & Tobago

Thursday, 20 September 2012 03:31

Come and serve with us in beautiful Trinidad & Tobago at our "HOPE Trinidad & Tobago Week of Service" during Thanksgiving!

For over 10 years the disciples of the Port of Spain Church of Christ have had the privilege of "looking after orphans and widows " (James 1:27) by frequently serving at one of the oldest children's homes in Trinidad & Tobago - St. Mary's Children's Home.

Around 80 children from babies to 18 year olds live here after having been orphaned or separated from their parents for domestic reasons. The facility isn't the best, but the smiles on the children's faces and the desire for love is there in abundance.

God has used the church here in Trinidad to affect hundreds of these children's lives by providing love and spiritual hope for the future. On an almost weekly basis, small groups from the church rotate and volunteer their time to sing, teach bible stories, and have fun with the kids.

Our family has been blessed to be able to serve there and we can say that God truly does fill you with a tremendous joy when you are able to love children who have so few people to love them.

However, we believe God is prompting us to do even more for the people of Trinidad & Tobago who are in need. So this November we are "relaunching" our benevolent efforts through our newly incorporated chapter of HOPE Worldwide -- HOPE Trinidad & Tobago.

We will be dedicating an entire week in service to others and calling it the "HOPE Trinidad & Tobago Week of Service".

Members of our congregation will be taking a day off of work during this week to participate in new service projects in addition to the successful work at St. Mary's Home.

From disaster relief preparation, to visiting the sick in the hospital, to spending time with members of our church who are elderly and shut-in. With the example of Jesus guiding us, we will strive to meet needs in a way that we never have before.

We invite YOU to join us and be a part of it!

Already there are ~15 disciples from the Central Jersey Church of Christ who are making plans to come and participate. These brothers and sisters have been planning and performing short-term missions to the Caribbean over the last few years. The missions are usually for 1 week, and they have served orphans, poor children/severely disabled adults, the elderly, and those impacted by natural disasters. So far they have served in Mexico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

The Week of Service is scheduled during the week of Thanksgiving (November 18-24, 2012) to take advantage of time off for the holidays.

There is still space if you (or an entire family!) would like to join them. What a heart-warming way to express your gratitude during Thanksgiving by serving someone else!

Kickoff and orientation will be at the PoSCoC building after our worship service on Sunday, November 18.

Pray about it, and if you're interested in coming with the group from Central Jersey, contact Horatio Piccininno for more details: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (732) 610-0000
